ARCHIVE - Passport Control 1-41 - MEDIAWAVE Art Workshops :: PASSPORT CONTROL 18. - 2010 Szombathely, Hungary :: MUSIC WORKSHOP

APPLICATION DEADLINE EXTENDED UNTIL 18 APRIL!

MEDIAWAVE ACOUSTIC ETHNO WORKSHOP
3-6 May, 2010, Szombathely

In the Passport Control workshops many music cooperations came into being, where recognized and experienced musicians have worked during more days with young musicians together. In the course of the common work complete bands have presented themselves and independent musicians have joined in with pleasure, and the education was going on in accordance with the opportunities, personalised with everybody.

Similarly to the filmmaker and photographer workshops, in this year the music workshops form thematic series, too. Under the name „Black-and-white together” follows ialready the second  Roma thematic workshop in a row now within the MEDIAWAVE Festival's framework.

At the time of the first common meeting in Győr the topic of the work was acquainting with the Gypsy folklore. The exploration of the mysteries of the Roma music continues, but in a typical manner of the festival in Szombathely, we prepare additional exciting musical meetings:

ETHNO-BLUES-ROCK

considering its musical genres, these will be the bases for a tasty musical treat.

The work is going to be proceeding in two groups:

1. GROUP – INSTRUMENTAL SECTION
GYÖRGY FERENCZI, harp singer, soloist of Herfli Davidson Band, Rackajam and Budapest Bár, will be the leading instructor.
This will not be our friend, Gyuri's first course. Our latest event was in Kisharsány at the Ördögkatlan (Devil Cauldron) Festival, you find a sample clicking on this link >> here.

While the Gypsy folklore inspired the musicians in Győr, here the genres represented by Gyuri will give the musical dominance, into which will then weave the melodies performed by Gabi Tintér.

2. GROUP- SINGER SECTION
With the title M E R Í T É S (Drawing On) GABRIELLA TINTÉR singer teaches Gypsy songs, picking from a collection by György Martin folk music researcher. Their performer is Kispaládi Fedor Sándor (DIMÓ) from Szatmár county, who was an eminent singer's talent in the neighbourhood.

With this group our aim is that Roma and Hungarians make acquaintance with Gypsy songs that are less known or their interpretation is, compared to the accepted style, different. We draw on this older layer, and as a result, we fix it up with the music workshop's instrumental group, expectedly in a common festival performance.

Fláre Beás Banda, authentic Boyash Gypsy music playing band from Devecser, and András Daniss „Kongo” contrabassist folk musician help in the work of both teams.

WHO ARE EXPECTED?

We expect the registration of those young people, who would like to recognise authentic Gypsy songs and their original interpretation with the leadership of Gabriella Tintér

and

those instrumental musicians, who would take part with pleasure in the common work practising the musical styles represented by György Ferenczi (blues-rock-ethno-authentic folk music).

The interested ones are expected in the two sections of the music workshop:

Drawing on – learning authentic gypsy songs
Leader: Gabriella Tintér

Instrumental section – blues – rock - ethno – authentic folk music
Leader: György Ferenczi

Please indicate on the application form the SINGER or INSTRUMENTAL section, the musical instrument, preliminary works, bands and the musical knowledge.
