Romungro Fiúk, a band from Csorna that counts as MEDIAWAVE Festival's own house band, and that got a push in the acoustic-international ethno workshops of György Ferenczi, boosting their musical development, was recently awarded by FRINGE Pécs2010 Festival's special award. At the same time they got the opportunity to participate in the international talent programme Roots&Routers. Congratulations to Vilmos Csuha and Péter Horváth!

It is probably the editor's work that is most invisible for a simple cinema-goer among the most important processes of filmmaking - directors, cinematographers and composers usually get much more attention. That is exactly why it is worth to take a look at films through the scissor-eyes of the editor. Alan Heim, Oscar-winning American editor, guest of Mediawave gave a presentation for the participants of the film workshop Passport Control.

Participants from Slovakia, Romania, Ukraine and Hungary joind their forces in Szombathely for a fresh Passport workshop. The opening gig of MEDIAWAVE by the Portuguese-Afro Terrakota helped to get into the mood, but on the first of May, in the spirit of international labour day, Passport participants started work too.

Photographers equipped a traditional lab and with Gábor Kapolka, they discussed dimensions of photography and the role of emotions and senses. Young filmmakers set up the editing background and became a bit familiar with camera movement, and started to work on the scripts along with on-site checking of the locations of the shootings...

30 young people worked in cooperation between 26-28 March 2010 in Győr during the workshops of Passport Control's 17th edition. The workshops entitled "Together through thick and thin" were supported by Norway Grants, with a special theme of Roma and Hungarian youngster's cooperation in arts.
The film group was led by Mária Vizi (Duna TV) and Daróczi János (MTV), the photo group by Judit M. Horváth and Péter Pettendi Szabó photographers, the music group by Ervin and Tibor Orsós from Fláre Beás Banda. The results of the projects were a concert, two concert films and many photo series which will also be available on our website.
The exciting workshop will continue 3 times in 2010, the next occasion being Mediawave Festival in Szombathely. We are expecting applications of young filmmakers, photographers and musicians at passport(at)mediawave(dot)hu.

MEDIAWAVE and PASSPORT CONTROL were invited to Bukarest. In the new building of the Institute of Hungarian Culture supports the presentation of the workshops and the festival by a photo exhibition as well. The pictures of the exhibition are dated in 2009, brought about by Imre Zalka and Radu Igazsag (professor of the University of Fine Arts, Bukarest, internationally known animator and photographer) with archaic photo techniques.
The presentation and the opening of the exhibition took place on 19 February 2010 at the opening ceremony of the new institute, by the cultural ministers of the two countries. Following the opening of the exhibition, a guitar meeting will also take place.
