We are the 99%...

The Occupy movement is an international protest movement against perceived social and economic inequality, its primary goal being to make the economic and political relations in all societies less vertically hierarchical and more flatly distributed.

It´s motto states: ´ We are the 99%.´, which refers to the concentration of income and wealth among the top earning 1%, and reflects an opinion that the "99%" are paying the price for the mistakes of a tiny minority within the upper class.

#occupy empowers individuals to lead others into action by gathering in the commons (public spaces, parks and online) as engaged citizens to demonstrate a culture based on community and mutual aid. We will be the change we are seeking in the world.

But what does music have to do with it?

Improvised music and it´s exploding energies will become the best demonstration tools. The project will work as a symbolic occupation of the sound waves and the acoustic spaces of the festival by the power of free-flowing music. OCCUPY MEDIAWAVE´14 aims to be a symbolic action/demonstration in the spirit of the occupy movement, where the participating musicians turn to be activists in different, freely set up formations (ad-hoc bands) and will play very short, action-/performance-like free music at different locations at the festival area.
