Entry Regulations
1 General information
- The number of entries and their duration are not limited.
- The languages of the Festival are English and Hungarian. In case the language of the film is other than English, it must be sent for selection with English subtitles. The dialogue list of each film with dialogues or subtitles should be sent to MEDIAWAVE before the selection starts. The films will be screened both with English and Hungarian subtitles.
2 The entry process
- There is no entry fee.
- The entry form must be completed in English or in Hungarian! The entry form should be printed. If you enter more than one film, please use a separate form for each work.
- The online submission closes automatically on 10 January, 2019. Entry forms must be completed, uploaded and printed, signed and submitted before 10 January, 2019 (preferably in December), along with the online link of your film (vimeo, youtube… etc.). The films can also be uploaded to our server. Password for online uploading will be sent to the e-mail address given on the entry form upon receiving the submission.
-Even you choose to send your fim on DVD (MEDIAWAVE’ 2019 – H-9001 Győr, Pf. 668.) your submission will be valid by completing the entry form. The preview copies sent to the Festival will not be posted back; they will be filed in the archives of the Festival.
3 The process of selection
– Submission deadline: 10 January, 2019. Please, do not hesitate to send your film right away so we can make the decision as soon as possible.
– Selection: the submitted films will be selected by an international jury between December 2018 and January 2019. Their selection will make the film program of the festival between 30 April and 4 May, 2019 in the screening rooms of the Fort Monostor, Komárom as well as the program of the online film festival between 1 March and 30 April, 2019. You can find the members of our selection committee on our website.
- Information on selection: the applicants will be informed about the selection in the end of February. The festival, depending on its actual financial possibilities, plans to invite the film makers in program to the festival with different conditions (1-2-3 days)
- Jurying process of the offline film festival:
• The selected films will be evaluated by an international jury and the award ceremony will take place at the festival.
• And international student jury also evaluates the films during the Gathering.
- At the special premier screening of the films, the members of the selection commitee and the juries will talk about the film in details and have a discussion with the audience and the film makers.
We do not just screen and discuss the films considering the film topic and the film maker’s culture we are also looking for ways to make each screening a community and cultural experience (tastings, music, exhibitions, etc.)
4 Formats recommended for online uploading:
- In case of Standard Definition (SD) digital record formats (Professional DV, miniDV, Digital8, DVCAM etc.) MPEG-2 PAL DV compression if possible
- In case of High Definition (HD) digital record formats (HDV 720p, HDV 1080i and HD) MPEG-4 H.264 (MPEG-4 AVC) compression if possible
5 Screening fee
- The Festival is not able to pay any rental or screening fee.
6 Deadline for uploading the film for screening to our server (if the film is selected to the festival program)
- The film(s) must be upoaded to our server or the screening link(s) must be provided for the festival before 30 March, 2019.
7 Entry Categories
GENERAL – apart from feature films, each category can be submitted (short fiction, documentary, animation and experimental. If it is a genre in between, you can mark more categories.
MINORITY - Any films can be submitted which deal with the problems and situation (ethnic, everyday life, sexual, etc.) of small ethnic groups and other minorities.
DUSTY REELS - films, that were once swept away by storms of the history, and were not presented due to isolation, political or economic reasons, or only a limited number of people, but not the general public could have seen them, or were put back into their boxes after a few showings. We are searching for imprints of disappeared worlds, for films preserving their artistic value despite the passing of time.
MUSIC AND DANCE FILMS – we are expecting those films, which reveal the world of jazz, improvised music, the contemporary and archaic folk music, furthermore the films based on dance and movement, both in documentary and fiction category.
“ON THE ROAD” ONLINE FILM FESTIVAL – we are looking for films, which, out of the classic film festival form, can be watched (between 1 March and 30 April, 2019) and voted (until 31 March) online in a limited period of time.
The two submission types do not exclude each other, however, the online form is supposed to expand the number of film views. The online film festival tries to get closer to the consumption practice of the internet world, helps to find the new young film-lover generation and as a next step, to invite them to the community of the “real” gathering. We are aware that certain film festivals do not accept films already online so we gladly include earlier works in our online program. The awarded films will be screened at our festival between 27 April and 1 May and it is our pleasure to host the film makers at our exciting location, in Fort Monostor.
Different retrospective programs from the most amazing films in the history of Mediawave will be available in the retrospective program of the online festival.
8 Entry Deadline : 10 January, 2019*
The completed online entry form along with the link of the film sent to selection must be provided until 10 January, 2019.

9 Data release
The online data entries and texts - except personal data - will be available on the website of the festival automatically after the process, where the entry can be followed. We do not send a detached notice.
10 Screenings
MEDIAWAVE Festival reserves the right to use the whole or excerpts of the films selected by the preview jury as promotion for non-commercial purpose in different areas of media for presentation and educational screenings and to use excerpts of the film for promotion on the festival’s web-site (max 3 min. for long films, max 10% of the total length for shorts)
Films selected by the preview jury will be screened at the expected Central East European venues of the festival.
