THE BRIDGEWOMAN - Hungarian Gold Cross for Ildikó Nagy

Ildikó 's relationship with Mediawave dates back to her grammar school years, when she started to work there as a volunteer. In the early 2000's she became one of the music organisers of the team and not much later she was already in charge of the international jazz programs. This was the period when Mediawave had grown a characterful European jazz festival, in which she played a significant role.

Meanwhile Mediawave was accepted to EJN (European Jazz Network) where she soon became a board member.

She met her husband, Chris Potter, the world-known American jazz saxophonist at Mediawave. Since then she has lived in New York, where, as the director of the Hungarian House, coordinates and builds the Hungarian community and cultural life with never-ending enthusiasm and perseverance.

For this activity, she was honoured with the Gold Cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit in New York City on 12 March, 2018.

She is with her daughter, Anna, in the photo.

THE LYRISIST - László Villányi's Cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit

More friends of us has received national awards lately, including László Villányi, with who we have worked together for decades, making films and documenting literary events.

This year there will be a unique presentation of the Műhely Periodical's special edition "JOY" (he was the editor in chief) at the MEDIAWAVE Film and Music Gathering.

He was awarded this merit for the acknowledgement of his poems representing a unique and strong voice in contemporary Hungarian lira and his high-level editor activity enriching the cultural life of the city of Győr.

THE ALERT - József Pintér's Hungarian Silver Cross

I took part at Jószef's self initiated accident prevention presentation series at the Barn Festival in Kiscsősz. I recroded the event and got fond of his almost fanatic dedication. Cimbi, the director of the Barn Festival, was also suspicious about the success of the presentation at a folk event, but to our surprise it went with full house.

We exchanged thoughts and emails about how to visualise and talk about a topic like this and I eventually invited him to MEDIAWAVE. Having got to know the community, József gave the presentation at such cultural places some further thoughts: he extended it with an exhibition and a live show also has in his mind for this year.

It is a special delight that they awarded him officially, too, for his volunteering activity: the President of the Republic of Hungary honoured JÓZSEF PINTÉR, Chief Warrant Officer, CSI with the Silver Cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit as an acknowledgement of his high level two decade activity in service.

"...IT IS FLOATING... LIKE A CLOUD IN ME... I'LL DOWNLOAD." - Gabi Makhult's opinion

Gabi Makhult fine artist had an exhibition last year but this year she also introduced herself as a singer.

Dear ViolettaJenő and SanyiGyuri!

It's a bit difficult to form an opinion because it is rather floating in me like a cloud but now I'll sit back and bring it down. I'll download it.

I always liked Mediawave beacuse of its community form, where you can create something, meet people and get inspired. Any time I went there, I always found programs that surprised me, people who was worth to meet right there or even after. It was like that this time, too, regardless that we were called to act so. For me, making things so concrete is beyond my comfort. This festival has the same profile if you don't ask people to follow this intention. It can't be any different, it has just happened that is's just like that, thanks to you.

with Szerda Zsófi's (Subbotica, Voivodina) photos

As it might be suspected from the promotional material, our east-trend cultural mining has brought a treasure to the surface. It is recommended to remember the excellent musicians: Yegor Zabelov - accordion, Alexander Efimov - vass, Vova Berger - drum

Zabelov's band, who made the audience dance from the second half of their show, belongs to a style and genre impossible to define (like e.g. Íva Bittová) that is an extra merit for us. Let's not talk about them too much, you should rather listen to their music starting softly and getting more and more intense. Our cameramen unfortunatelly missed the first such tranquil start, so the video is almost completed... See the details.

“Slow river...” is experimenting a new/old form of community togetherness trying to balance the conditions of today’s consumption based trends. We are willing to apply „craftsmanship - based” implementation instead of industrial organization. Started as a „by - product” of the 26 years old Mediawave Selective 2010 in Őriszentpéter, after that within the framwork of Ördögkatlan Festival between 2011-2015. In 2016 we will start at a new location, the Castle of Somogyfajsz and the surrounding natura park. The goal is art-mediation, building communities, living in the nature/living together with nature.

Deatils, workshops, application forms avialable here!

Happiness without electricity - an interview with Zimu Zhang, director of Once upon a time in Hungary

Amidst the picturesque mountainscape of Hungary is a place called Boldogszer. It’s home for a family of seven whose way of life is more akin to the 18th rather than the 21st century. István and Réka and their children are cut off from the rest of the world, a “matrix” they would say and lack all modern comforts. The children play on meadows and in the woods just like storybooks intended. Life takes its beat from nature and the changing of the seasons. The film tries to bring viewers to experience a daily revolution with a family so brave but also as vulnerably as everyone of us. Interview with Zimu Zhang, co-director of the film Once upon a time in Hungary.
